PRODUCT LIABILITY PUBLICATION CONTEST
Sponsored by the Product Liability Section of the Oregon State Bar

1.Law Schools:  University of Oregon Law School; Willamette University College of Law;           Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College.

2.Eligible Students:  All students.

3.Subject Matter:  Products Liability Law.  In addressing this broad topic, the author should           write an article addressing a particular issue or area of product liability law, including its                     application to current Oregon law.  The Product Liability Executive Committee (the                               “Committee”) is not seeking articles simply describing or summarizing general product                      liability law.  Rather, the author should write about the particular chosen issue with                              reference to the current law, social policy, and other considerations the author believes are               relevant.

4.Determination of the Award:  The prize will be awarded to the eligible student who, in the                    sole judgment of the Committee, prepares the best paper.  The Committee may, in its                           iscretion, withhold the award entirely, if, in its opinion no worthy paper is submitted.

5.Amount of Award:  The first place winner of the Contest will receive a cash prize of $2,000.                 The winning paper will be published in the Product Liability Section Newsletter, subject to                 space limitations.  There is the potential for publication of other papers.

6.Requirements as to the Length and Form of Manuscript:  Papers must strictly comply with                 the following requirements; failure to do so may disqualify a paper from receiving any                         award:

(a)Manuscript must be typewritten (double-spaced) in 14 point font on 8-1/2” x 11” paper, 1”                  margins all around.  All quotations exceeding four lines must be indented and single-                          spaced.

(b)Table of Contents must be included.

(c)Citations must be in approved law review form.

(d)        Recommended length for manuscript is 3,750 words, including footnotes and endnotes,                    and excluding the Table of Contents.  Longer papers may be submitted, but the author may              be required to edit for length for publication in the Product Liability Section Newsletter.

(e)One hard copy of manuscript must be submitted.  In addition, an electronic/digital version of              the manuscript must be submitted (Microsoft Word format preferred).  The latter can be                       submitted either on a disk accompanying the hard copy or as an email attachment.

(f)  The hard copy of the manuscript should include a cover page with the title of the paper, the              author’s name, address, and telephone number; the disk should bear a label with the same               information.
